The Skinny:The cool bit for me was keeping the scratch guitar. I wrote it on Sunday nite. It wasn’t til Thursday that I got to track the rest. Yeah I know I’m a day late. The isn’t called Thursday or Friday’s song. I’m bruised on the inside over that. Back to tracking. After the drums were beat corrected, which takes a couple of hours and is boooring, the scratch guitar had a vibe I wouldn’t duplicate. Why even try? I did move 5 or 6 licks closer to the groove. I don’t feel bad since I was singing the scratch vocal when I laid it down. This is a fruit of my hometown thoughts and fascination with Carl Perkins.

Jackson, TN

I come up from Jackson in west Tennessee
Named after the president called Old Hickory
I’ve been known to travel, there’s so much to see
But I’ve only got one hometown, that’s Jackson, TNI went to high school in the halls of JCM
Where I went to band camp where we marched to win
Then I took some college classes down at JSCC
There’s only one town where this came to be

I come up from Jackson, that’s west Tennessee
Named after the president known as Old Hickory
I’ve had my travels, I’ve been across the sea
But, I’ve only got one hometown that’s Jackson, TN

Rock-n-Roll got started with one little tune
When Carl Perkins wrote Blue Suede Shoes
He wrote it in his kitchen on Parkview Street
He got the world to rocking with his hillbilly beat

I come up from Jackson, the state of Tennessee
You’ve only got one hometown, mine’s Jackson, Tn

What’s that sound? It sounds like trouble
Jackson’s got a story that’s sad but true
about a native son on the 382
He saved his switchman’s life before the wreck
By telling him to jump as they neared the gates of Hell
Can you hear that train a coming?
All a clickety clack
Casey Jones died that day
The train ran off its tracks

Twice I’ve been to funerals at Brown’s cemetery
I’ll always remember the days my folks were buried
Part of me is lost in that Jackson ground
But I’m standing here today to try and make my Mother proud

I come up from Jackson down in Tennessee
Named after the president known as Old Hickory
No matter where I travel I will always be
A good ole boy with one hometown, that’s Jackson, TN
